FAQs

Getting Started

What can I expect in a first session?

3

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask about what brought you in, your background, and what you’d like to work on, and we’ll start shaping a plan together. There’s no need to prepare anything in advance, and it’s completely normal to feel nervous. We’ll go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Do you offer a free consultation?

1

Yes. I offer a free 15-minute consultation by phone or video so we can talk about what you’re looking for and see whether we’re a good fit. There’s no obligation to book afterward.

How do I book?

2

You can book online, call 289-238-8383 or email lisagilespsychotherapy@gmail.com. Before your first visit, you’ll receive an intake form by email to complete.

How many sessions will I need, and how often?

4

It varies. Some people feel ready to wrap up after a few sessions, while others continue for months or longer, depending on their goals, history, and what they’re working through. Most people start with weekly or biweekly sessions, then space them out as things improve. We can discuss this at your first session and come up with a plan that makes sense for your situation.

What if I’m not sure if therapy is right for me?

5

You can choose whether you want to start therapy, and even once it’s started, you can choose to end it at any time. Keep in mind that no topic is too big or too small, and you don’t necessarily need a clear goal to get started. We can work together to make it a helpful space for you. If you decide we’re not the right fit, I can help connect you to another therapist - no hard feelings.

About My Practice

Who do you work with?

1

I work with individuals and couples, including parents and parents-to-be, high-stress professionals, and people navigating anxiety, low mood, trauma, stress, and life transitions. I welcome people of all genders, including mothers, fathers, and non-binary parents, and I’m inclusive of all relationship types and family structures, including LGBTQ+ individuals and couples.

What kind of therapy do you offer?

2

I take an integrative approach, drawing on evidence-based modalities such as ACT, CBT, mindfulness, EFT, the Gottman Method, and solution-focused strategies, always through a trauma-informed and attachment-based lens. Your goals and experiences guide which tools we use.

Where are you located?

3

I am in Dundas, Ontario and see clients in person at Blueberry Therapy (14 Cross St. Unit B). I also offer secure video sessions for clients located in Ontario.

Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person?

4

For many concerns, research shows online therapy can be as effective as in-person, and many clients find it more convenient. If you’re unsure which format suits you, we can talk it through, and you can switch if you change your mind.

Fees, Insurance, and Billing

What is the fee for a session?

1

For individual therapy, my rate is $180 for a 1 hour session. For couples therapy, the initial 75 min session is $225 and subsequent 1 hour sessions are $200. Reduced rates may be available.

Will my extended healthcare benefits cover your services?

2

Many plans cover psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) in Ontario. It’s worth checking your plan for the amount covered per year and whether a referral is required. You will receive a receipt after each session to submit for reimbursement. Direct billing is not available.

What is your cancellation policy?

3

You must provide at least 24 hours notice to reschedule or cancel. Late cancellations and missed appointments may be charged the full session fee.
